Emerald Lake is one of the most beautiful destinations in Yoho National Park, with an unmatched diversity of activities and landscapes suitable for the enthusiastic traveler.

Access to the lake is surprisingly easy as it is located just a few miles from the TransCanada Highway, where thousands of people pass Emerald Lake every day.

The walk around the lake, which takes about an hour, is one of the least strenuous but most rewarding in the park. For the more adventurous hikers, there are other trail options. Bring your bear spray.

Emerald Lake is a tranquil lake nestled in the mountains and surrounded by lush green forest. The lake's stunning visual appeal is surrounded by President Range, Mount Burgess, and Wapta Mountain. And colorful vegetation.

It's easy enough to figure out where Emerald Lake gets its name from, as the glacial waters refract light in a display of vibrant color. The color alone would be enough to move you, but the surrounding scenery leaves you speechless.

To see the color at its peak, you will have to arrive in the summer, as the melting glaciers high above the lake deposit a rock meal (fine rock soil as glaciers move) into the lake, making the lake refract light in bright color.

Few destinations in Canada offer the unique combination of luxury and nature that Emerald Lake Lodge offers.

Although canoes are not cheap to rent, getting one is a quiet way to enjoy the lake. Rates are currently $ 70 for a one-hour rental. Some rowboats are also available.

Things to do in Emerald Lake

It has a plethora of activities to enjoy on the lake, but the two most popular are leisurely walks along the shoreline or a gentle canoe across the lake's surface. If you already have plans to travel around Banff and the Canadian Rockies, this is a stop worth visiting and it is only twenty minutes from the most famous Lake Louise.

An easy walking trail that is 5.2 km (3.2 miles) around the lake is a gentle grade-appropriate for families and those looking for an easy hike. Emerald Lake is a popular destination for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and backcountry skiing during the winter. It also happens to be an impressive sight in the winter months, much the same as in the summer.

A walk through the woods here is well worth it, as the lake has a small microclimate more indicative of a rainforest found on the shoreline. This is due to the natural amphitheater that traps moisture, causing heavy rain and snow, so don't be surprised to catch the lake on a cloudy day.

A pristine natural wilderness surrounds the mountain and visitors regularly see ground squirrels, marmots, bald eagles, bears, grebes, and the occasional elk. Visiting the lake is much less difficult than visiting Moraine Lake or Lake Louise, but it can still be hectic in the summer months.

However, it can be easy to get out of business if you take a short walk. Most visitors congregate around the bridge near the parking lot that leads to the Emerald Lake Lodge.

Early morning and late evening are particularly magical at Emerald Lake as only a few days visitors stay. This is a great advantage to staying at the Emerald Lake Lodge.

When is the best time to visit Emerald Lake?

You can visit Emerald Lake in British Columbia at any time of the year, as it functions as a year-round destination. The winter months sometimes feel like a storybook and are so beautiful.

However, the summer months are by far the most popular, and when the vast majority of visitors will want to schedule their visit to Emerald Lake and the Canadian Rockies.
